Reporting to the Mill Manager, Atikokan Pellet Mill, the Fibre Manager is responsible for preparing and implementing an adequate and economical long range fibre supply plan that ensures high quality, low cost chips, bark and round wood for the mill site in its designated region to meet timing and volume requirements in compliance with all company policies, guideline’s and standards. This role will spend the majority of time traveling within the ATK crown licensed and mill residual areas and remainder of time spent in an office environment.

Additional Accountabilities Include:

• Purchasing wood which includes contract negotiations, contract management and management of the ATK crown licensed area where wood is harvested.

• Conducting negotiation and management of contracts for mill residues.

• Managing key fibre suppliers includes the tracking of performance metrics and making improvements where required; ensuring compliance with environmental, safety and forest practices, WSIB requirements, insurance etc.

• Ensuring the mill continues to be a licensed wood provider for its operations and maintaining relationships with external resources and other key stakeholders to ensure the mill continues to be a licensed wood provider.

• Managing the Forest Certification System.

• Maintaining current market knowledge of fibre flow, competitor strategies and fibre pricing.

Qualifications & Skills Required:

• Forestry degree with a minimum of 3 years operational forestry experience.

• Must be able to work independently and travel to various locations to manage on-the-ground forestry activities.

• Demonstrated problem solving skills and ability to work through complex contractual and operational issues.

• Knowledge of wood fibre scaling and settlement systems an asset.

• Knowledge of the forest certification system such as FSC (Forest Stewardship Council).

• Must be analytical and data-driven.

• Proficient with computers. MS office programs and common forestry technical tools.

• Valid driver’s license
