DUTIES: The Environmental Technician will provide our government, utility, commercial and not-for-profit clients with the services and solutions needed to efficiently and effectively manage natural resources, comply with policies and obtain regulatory permits.  Candidates should possess a professional work ethic with attention to detail and safety.
The successful candidate will assist with:  
  • Native plant and seed installation for streambank and lake shoreline stabilization, wetland construction, and habitat restoration projects 
  • Invasive species monitoring and control at a variety of wetland and stream restoration sites 
  • Report writing, ecological consulting, and urban forestry, as needed 
  • Use GIS & handheld devices to collect data
  • Inspect a wide range of habitats, both natural and disturbed, and assess their condition, health and functionality 
Possession of or ability to obtain an Indiana Certified Pesticide Applicators License a plus. Field technicians will work with Davey staff and project managers, but be capable or working alone or on large teams. Experience with spray equipment, small engine maintenance and repair, and carpentry is valuable. Candidates should be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office programs, and have the ability to drive 4x4 ATV/UTV vehicles. Applicants must possess a valid driver’s license, have a good driving record, and hold a valid medical card to become a Davey qualified driver.
  • EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS: Formal education or experience in Biology, Botany, Ecology, Forestry, Horticulture, Hydrology, Soil Science, Zoology, or related discipline is desired. 
  • Ability to drive 4x4 vehicles and an ATV/UTV is preferred 
  • Driver’s license and clean driving record are required; a driver’s fitness exam or Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) may be required by project 
  • State pesticide applicators license, or willingness to obtain license within three months 
  • Ability to work and hike in rugged terrain and inclement weather using heavy equipment, such as GPS units, monitoring equipment, backpack sprayers, augers, brushcutters, etc. 
  • Proficient working knowledge of computers, including GIS systems and Google’s suite of applications 
  • Excellent communication skills 
  • Ability to travel extensively
