Soil & Forestry Consulting, a small and Edmonton-based environmental consulting service, is currently seeking interested persons to work with us on field-based projects in Agriculture, Forestry or Environmental Sciences.

These are temporary positions for up to 6 months that can be extended, based upon the candidate availability-suitability and amount of company workload. 

Ideal candidates for employment with our firm must hold a valid Class 5 Alberta Drivers License, be physically fit and willing-able to work efficiently in a variety of site and weather conditions.

The candidate should also have training, working knowledge and experience in: 

  • environmental soil and groundwater sampling, 
  • description of soils and subsurface parent materials using Canadian System of Soil Classification and Unified Soil Classification terms and conventions,
  • field data collection and measurements,
  • use of global positioning system hand-held receivers and basic office computer software (i.e. Excel, Word).
  • identification of native, agronomic and weed plant species in Alberta, and
  • forestry surveys such as ecological land classification, pre-harvest assessments, post-harvest silvicultural prescriptions, timber cruising and permanent sample plots.

    Experience in conducting Phase I to III Environmental Site assessments, remediation of contaminated sites and/or reclamation assessments (pre-disturbance and post reclamation) of disturbed sites is considered as assets.

    Other attributes of the ideal candidate would be:
  • is a member or eligible for membership in the Alberta Institute of Agrologists, College of Alberta Professional Foresters or other related professions (i.e. Alberta Association of Professional Biologists, Association of Professional Engineers, Geologist and Geophysicists of Alberta) or technologist in engineering, forestry, geology or groundwater).
  • Current certification to operate all-terrain vehicles,
  • Current certification to work safely on construction sites,
  • Experience working with subcontractors who operate drill rigs, excavators, dozers and other mechanized equipment, 
  • Current certification in Standard First Aid and CPR.
