Our client is a leading North American manufacturer of diverse specialty printing papers, newsprint and pulp. In the role of Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for providing leadership and direction to a team of Mechanical, Electrical and Instrumentation Engineers. You will work closely with members of the maintenance and operating teams to promote world class safety, maximize availability and efficiencies and optimize technological advancements.

Accountabilities

As a member of the Senior Management Team

  • Assess and manage risk for the safety of mill personnel, the environment and for the business. Develop the right Safety and Environmental culture in the department.
  • Participate in the development of the division's strategic plan and support its implementation. 
  • Champion the development of superior ‘employee engagement' and ‘mill reliability'.
  • Provide leadership and focus on continuous improvement initiatives and change projects.
  • Ensure standardized procedures, policies and effective processes are developed, adopted and complied within their areas.
  • Lead, coach and mentor direct reports to support high performance, employee development and succession planning.
  • Work with other managers to maximize cross functional effectiveness.
  • Develop and maintain an operational plan for the department with ongoing cost management, budget control and performance management.
  • Uphold important organizational Principles and Values.  

As Engineering Manager:

  • Lead in the development of the annual capital and major maintenance plan and assist in the preparation of the mill annual budget, and ensure execution of the area budget in a safe, efficient, high quality and cost-effective manner. 
  • Evaluate long-term needs in relation to major projects and property improvements and plans appropriately. 
  • Evaluate major strategic projects or profit improvement projects for consideration in future plans
  • Develop and nurture a safe, high performance, high discipline, accountable, focused, innovative and achievement-oriented professional workforce.

Requirements

The successful candidate will be registered as a Professional Engineer with APEGBC and possess

  • A Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of ten (10) years relative experience in heavy industry, with strong preference for pulp and paper.
  • Considerable knowledge and experience in effective project management
  • Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong analytical/problem-solving skills, the ability to develop and implement innovative solutions to manufacturing problems.
  • The ability to lead and effectively engage within a team environment and with all levels of the organization.
