Our mill is capable of producing 130 million board feet per year of a multitude of grades including economy lumber; stud grades; #2 and better graded lumber; machine stress rated lumber (MSR); heat-treated compliant lumber (HT compliant); and kiln-dried lumber with a 19% or less moisture content.Kenora Forest Products is proud of its unique ability to process 4 foot logs of premium-grade spruce, pine and fir lumber and studs, producing over 450,000 cubic meters per year of wood harvested in renewable, environmentally responsible forestlands.

Electrician

Primary Function of the Job:

  • To apply technical skills in the performance of a variety of tasks related to the dismantling, moving, installing, repairing, and maintaining of electrical equipment, electronic equipment, and electrical power distribution and supply apparatus, in accordance with the standards of a Journeyman Electrician and the Electrical Code, and the instructions and objectives of Kenora Forest Products supervisory staff.
  • To comply with manufacturer specifications, with the Ontario Health and Safety Act and regulations for industrial establishments, and with company health and safety policies and procedures in the performance of all tasks.
  • To conduct regular inspections of the workplace for preventative maintenance purposes, complete records and report tasks as required, train Electrician Apprentices and monitor their progress, solve problems, troubleshoot all machinery, equipment, and systems assigned, interpret blueprints and plans, requisition parts and supplies, receive and put away parts and supplies, and attend meetings.
  • To maintain a reporting relationship with the Millwright Maintenance Personnel, the Saw Filing Personnel, Production Supervisors, and Production Workers.
  • To coordinate activities with peers, other maintenance personnel, and production personnel.

Experience working with PLC's, VFD's and new technologies in an Electrical role is required for success in this position.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To plan and organize his/her own work and tools and equipment requirements, and to perform assigned tasks in accordance with the Electrical Code and instructions and objectives of Kenora Forest Products supervisory staff.
  • To ensure that the assigned work performed on machinery, equipment, buildings, and facilities is performed in accordance with established specifications, standards, instructions, good work practices and safety procedures.
  • To be familiar with and personally comply with legislative requirements, Kenora Forest Products Sawmill health and safety policies and procedures and safe work practices.
  • To know and follow the safe and correct lock-out procedure for all machinery and equipment in his/her area of responsibility. LOCK-OUT procedure must be adhered to without exception.
  • Responsible for ensuring that he/she fully understands the machinery, equipment, and work procedures for the job and for advising his/her coordinator if not clear on any aspect of the job.
  • Responsible for the training of Electrician Apprentices in accordance with Ministry of Labour guidelines for on-the-job training and Electrical Training Programs, for observing their performance and ensuring work is performed in accordance with correct and safe procedures, and for reporting verbally and written to the Kenora Forest Products supervisory staff on the competency of trainees in the performance of tasks.
  • To apply appropriate technical skills in the performance of a variety of tasks, including the use and testing of electric motors, metal detectors, transformers, PLC hardware and software, variable frequency drives, and MMI hardware and MMI software development systems.
  • To recognize whether or not electrical and electronic systems in the workplace are functioning in accordance with manufacturers’ specifications or other instructions issued.
  • To set up and use measuring devices, scaffolding, climbing equipment, and hoisting equipment as required to perform tasks, and to follow established related safe work policies and procedures during the performance of such tasks.
  • If assigned to an area of responsibility, to conduct visual and physical inspections of the electrical/electronic systems contained in area and submits reports on systems in accordance with instructions and good work practices.
  • To schedule his/her assigned duties to ensure tasks are completed with flexibility to meet emergency situations.
  • To submit verbal and written reports as required related to the condition of machinery, equipment, buildings and facilities that he/she has worked on.
  • To requisition parts and supplies required for the maintenance of equipment worked on.
  • To perform clean up duties as required on completion of tasks to maintain a safe work environment and to dispose of materials and equipment left over after task completion in accordance with company policy/procedure and/or standing instructions from Kenora Forest Products supervisory staff.
  • To attend meetings as required related to safety and maintenance.
  • To have full understanding of mill radio use and know all radio channels. To maintain a clear radio channel for communication with others.
  • To perform other related tasks as required.
