The City’s Parks & Forestry Division is comprised of Forestry Operations, Park Planning, Park Development and Parks Operations sections working cooperatively to meet and deliver the open space and outdoor recreational needs of the community. Collectively, we manage 2,988 hectares of parkland, 263 playgrounds, 368 sports fields, 327 km of trails, two marinas, 10 cemeteries, and 1 million trees.

Job Qualifications:

Reporting to the Commissioner of Community Services, the Director, Parks & Forestry leads a team of 214 full-time staff in addition to a large complement of seasonal staff in the delivery of parks and forestry planning, development, and operations. The Director manages all related human, financial, and technological resources in the development and implementation of divisional strategies, service requirements, and operational plans. 

With your university degree and more than ten years of relevant experience, you are skilled in leading and coaching teams. You’ve demonstrated your ability to build relationships with community groups, and partner with outside agencies and private sector organizations. You have a track record of improving efficiencies and delivering value and cost-effective services to the community. Your excellent communication skills have enabled you to effectively present your organization in public forums, facilitate complex discussions, and present recommendations to committees and elected officials.
