Position Function

Advise and inform MFI members of policies, guidelines and actions by governmental forest management entities that will have an impact on timber supply and forest management activities by these agencies. Utilize modeling software (Remsoft) to analyze management proposals and to create proposals by MFI to be utilized to inform the decision making process by governmental forest management entities. Provide and develop information for MFI members so that informed decisions can be made. Develop strong relationships and seek cooperation among other entities in resource management. Provide staff support to SFI State Implementation Committee. Represent MFI and its members on various resource management and related committees. 

Position Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Analyze and prepare comments on current and proposed county, state and federal forest management plans, policies and regulations; 
  • Access scientific information and communications on current forest management issues; 
  • Model forest management options and alternatives utilizing Remsoft; 
  • Advise on the preparation of proactive industry intiatives; 
  • Communicate analytical work to MFI staff and members; 
  • Represent MFI on various committees; 
  • Develop relationships with County Land Commissioners and Departmental Staff, MN DNR staff, USFS staff, MN Department of Agriculture staff, USF&WS staff; 
  • Prepare briefing materials for use with elected officials and other audiences; 
  • Provide primary staff support for MFI Forestry Affairs Committee; 
  • Provide primary staff support for SFI State Implementation Committee. 

Qualifications

MS Forest Economics/Policy/Biometrics preferred. Knowledge of: 

  • Minnesota forest resources, 
  • governmental forest management planning and decision making processes,  
  • forest modeling, GIS, forest inventory systems. Exceptional ability to develop relationships, speak, write, edit and persuade. Ability to work in a private sector trade association, work on committees that represent diverse and competing interests and achieve desired results.
