The City of Penticton is a vibrant, innovative, adventurous waterfront City focused on sustainability, community and economic opportunity. Our Parks Department is seeking a dynamic and highly motivated individual for the position of Arborist. This position performs horticulture tasks in construction and maintenance of City parks, landscapes, floral displays, trees, shrubs, turf and sports fields. 

Required Qualifications:

  • Diploma in horticulture or related discipline from a recognized educational institute, including courses in landscape design, construction, maintenance, arboriculture, irrigation, turfgrass management, plant health care, safety, risk management and/or supervisory training, along with a minimum of two years’ practical horticulture experience in municipal parks or landscape construction and maintenance, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Certified Arborist, Utility Arborist, Tree Risk Assessment Qualification (TRAQ) certifications are considered assets.
  • Valid BC Pesticide Applicator Certificate—landscape general.
  • Ability to read, interpret and/or maintain a variety of records, maps, blueprints related to the work.
  • Mechanical aptitude and ability to operate single-axle vehicles, aerial bucket trucks, light tractors, chainsaws, tools and equipment relating to parks operations.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to deal with people in a professional manner.
  • Valid B.C. Driver’s Licence – Class 5 (with air endorsement preferred).
  • Physically fit and able to perform heavy manual labour.

Compensation

The wage for this position is $25.97-$28.81 per hour.
