Administrative Safety Officer (Health, Safety & Training)

S.D.N Contracting Ltd. Is seeking a highly-driven individual who would like to grow with the company.

The successful candidate will start off as an administrative safety officer with the opportunity to grow into a safety manager. Desired applicants will have a background in the forest industry.

Location: Lake Cowichan, BC 

Duties include, but are not limited to:

• Demonstrate sound technical understanding of S.D.N’s safe work practices and procedures, and the detailed requirements of the Site Safety Management Plan as well as other Occupational Health, Safety & Environment (OHSE) requirements outlined in the contract.
• Ensure S.D.N Contracting’s safety policies are promoted and followed.
• Review Work Safe BC investigation reports and follow up on the action items.
• Review incident investigations.
• Provide site safety training and new employee orientations for all workers working on the job site, including S.D.N workers, subcontractors, clients and visitors.
• Assist the site supervisor as required in leading all site safety meetings.
• Complete administration and documentation required for each meeting.
• Record and circulate meeting minutes as required.
• Complete thorough investigations into all safety or environmental incidents, in conjunction with the site supervisor.
• Complete monthly health & safety reports and submit to the project manager.
• Manage all safety related administrative tasks as required.
• Perform a variety of administrative and clerical office support activities for multiple staff, in a timely manner.
• Uphold electronic and paper filing systems.
• Develop and maintain an electronic mapping system.

Credentials

• Completion of post-secondary education in a related field (administrative or forestry).
• At least 2 years of experience in the forest industry is an asset
• Strong computer skills including proficiently in using Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
• Ability to multi-task and work independently and as part of a team.
• Work collaboratively with team members in order to achieve a common goal.
• Develop, maintain and strengthen relationships with stakeholders.
