ABOUT THE ROLE

The accountant’s responsibilities include reconciling account balances, maintaining general ledger and preparing month-end close procedures.

Our accountant combines excellent analytical skills with a thorough knowledge of accounting principles to analyze financial reports and forecasts. The ideal candidate has also experience working direct with external accounting firms and bookkeepers.

YOU WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR

  • Verify, allocate, post and reconcile accounts
  • Prepare and remit HST and other taxes as required
  • Produce error-free accounting reports and present their results
  • Analyze financial information and summarize financial status
  • Spot errors and suggest ways to improve efficiency and spending
  • Participate in financial standards setting and in forecast process
  • Provide input into department’s goal setting process
  • Prepare financial statements and produce budgets according to schedule
  • Assist with internal and external audits to ensure compliance
  • Assist with month-end and year-end close process
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP principles
  • Liaise with leadership to improve financial procedures

REQUIREMENTS

  • 5-7 years of experience as an accountant
  • Thorough knowledge of basic accounting procedures
  • In-depth understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Experience managing and reporting in multiple currencies (US and Canada)
  • Familiarity with financial accounting statements
  • Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year-end close process
  • Advanced MS Excel skills including V-lookups and pivot tables
  • Accuracy and attention to detail
  • Aptitude for numbers and quantitative skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills is a must
  • BA degree in Accounting, Finance or relevant
  • Relevant certification (e.g. CGA, CMA) will be preferred
